Data Steward also known as DATMP that volunteers who are responsible for collecting and maintaining patent data. Steward are responsible for collecting patent data, converting it into a format suitable for DATAMP server to use it and keeping the data for the patents they are stewarding up to date in database. There is a link on each patent detail page to allow users to send email to the steward for the patent, so users can contribute additional information. Stewards typically have a strong interest in a particular kind of patented tool and many cases will already have some patent data collested. For these folks, stewardship is a natural extension of their patent research. Collecting and organizing the data helps to increase their own knowledge of their area and the fact that it is publicized for others to use is a nice side-effect. Data Steward’s role is assigned to a person that is responsible for maintaining a data element in a metadata registry. It also use when organizations are attempting to exchange data precisely and consistently between computer systems and reuse data-related resources.
The role of a Data Steward considered to be innovative because it can help to hand in the work to someone who knows how to deal with the data and improve its quality and also help the company to address the data problem before they become serious problems that may effect on the business work. The company should treat their data as other assets and they have to create a quality team from different departments and agree on a job title in all companies. Many businesses can special order just about any product, so we can even please the specialty customer by getting something for them and not letting an expensive product sit on the shelf. Beside that, Data Steward is considered to be innovative because most companies put someone in charge of data only when something goes wrong. Many companies treat data quality as a ‘find-and-fix’ effort that is done at the end of the project by an IT worker. Other companies try to maintain their data quality by having business users who use the data deal with the effort, while others simply wait to throw resources at improving the data when a major problem occurs.

At Emerson, Data Stewards ensure that data integrity is maintained during database conversions and do the logical design for the data warehouse tables. What this means for the Emerson is that their data is correct, up-to-date and maintained. For example, Emerson’s customer records no longer have duplicated records, misspellings and fields with missing data. By having Data Stewards, Emerson also engaging in preventative maintenance meaning that because their data quality and integrity is consistently maintained and updated, they are preventing major problems for occurring in the data.

Example for companies in certain industries like in IT industries, their business base on providing information and effective data management to success in their field. So, they needs an effective data resource management to contribute the strategic goals in an organization. Beside that, management at Emerson is able to analyze who its customer are, where they are located, how much and which products are they purchasing and which can lead to regional or global sales teams. From the analyzing, they can know what the benefits are and effectiveness data resource management contributes to the strategic goals on Emerson.
